The Strauss Health Sciences Library is pleased to announce the opening of its newest Nancy Nelson - Women in Medicine exhibit, honoring Bonnie W. Camp, M.D., Ph.D., a pioneering psychologist, pediatrician, educator, researcher, and philanthropist whose groundbreaking work helped establish the field of developmental-behavioral pediatrics.
Throughout her distinguished career, Dr. Camp championed interdisciplinary care for children with developmental and behavioral challenges. She led the John F. Kennedy Child Development Center (now JFK Partners) and co-developed innovative programs, including Think Aloud, Bright Beginnings (now Bright by Three), and PUPPETalk™, which continue to support early language development and parent-child relationships.
After earning degrees in psychology, Dr. Camp returned to the University of Colorado School of Medicine to complete her medical degree and pediatric residency. She authored more than 100 publications and presentations, contributed to the validation of the Denver Developmental Screening Test, and conducted influential research on early childhood development and language that continues to be cited decades later.
Through her leadership, mentorship, and philanthropy, she inspired generations of clinicians, educators, and researchers dedicated to improving the health and well-being of children.
