Andrew Stanford Morton, of University College, London, introduced his new and improved ophthalmoscope in 1884. The new design added a dial with 29 additional lenses into the rotating mirror design of the Lindsay ophthalmoscope. This design became one of the most popular to be used for the next 40 years.
