Nancy Nelson - Career

Dr. Nancy Nelson is hired by the University of Colorado as a clinical instructor in the School of Medicine and begins a decades long career with the CU organization.

Serves in dual roles at the University of Colorado as a professor in the School of Medicine and the College of Nursing.

Becomes the Co-Director of the School Nurse Practitioner Program.

Becomes the first female president of the Denver Medical Society.

Directs and expands the Medical Student International program (MISP) within the School of Medicine.

Becomes the Associate Dean of Students Affairs and a professor in the School of Medicine’s Department of Pediatrics.

Awarded the Silver and Gold Award, the School of Medicine Medical Alumni Association’s highest honor. The award is given in recognition of Excellence in Humanitarianism, Citizenship and Professionalism, and is presented for outstanding service to the community and contributions to the science and art of medicine.

Serves as a member of the American Medical Association Council on Medical Education. She becomes the co-chair in 2001.

Honorarily inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society.

Retires from the University of Colorado and receives clinical professor emerita status in pediatrics.
