Who Gets What?

The Strauss Health Sciences Library is funded by University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus (CU Anschutz) to serve and support health sciences programs and personnel. The library’s primary users include students currently enrolled at CU Anschutz, health sciences faculty and staff at Anschutz Campus paid by the University, UC Health hospital employees and other types of patrons such as retired health sciences faculty. Please see below for more detail.

Primary users of the library receive all library services at either optimal cost or no cost along with remote off-campus access to licensed online content.

Registration is required for some accounts along with verification from the library's staff of all library applications.

Volunteer Clinical Faculty (VCF), Preceptors, Contributing Faculty

Volunteer Clinical, Adjunct, and Preceptor Faculty verified by the library, as approved by the appropriate School or College, are eligible for online access. These are individuals who are supporting the teaching and other missions of departments and Schools at CU Anschutz and who have formal appointment as Volunteer Clinical Faculty as defined by the Schools. The library will grant access to unpaid volunteer faculty, but only after they are vetted and approved by the Schools as active, contributing volunteer faculty members. The library does not decide who is a faculty member in the Schools.

As a Volunteer Clinical and Preceptor Faculty of the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, you will have full access to the library’s databases and electronic resources. To access the library’s databases and electronic resources, use your University Credentials. This is the same username (not your email) and password that you use to access the University Portal and/or University email. You can log-in to the Off-Campus Access here.

If you do not know if you have University Credentials to login and/or do not have a library account or would like to check out books, you can fill out the online library account application form here.

Please read the library’s Responsible Use of Online Resources policy, which prohibits “sharing your library login and passwords to online resources with unauthorized users or any other person/s.” Violations have the potential to jeopardize rights of access in the future and may result in the temporary suspension or termination of access to resources.

Your institutional ID is all you need to check out books and other items. Use the same University Credential username and password that you use on UCDAccess to access databases and online journal articles from off campus.

Your institutional ID (student ID or employee ID) is probably already registered with the library.
Find more information about your institutional ID here.

Alumni of Anschutz Medical Campus Schools

Alumni from schools/colleges are eligible for a variety of services either free or at reduced rates and service fees. Due to budget and license restrictions, the full range of resources and services you experienced as a student are not available in an unlimited fashion.

Alumni can apply for a library account using our online Library Account Application form. Once verified as alumni from an AMC program, you are entitled to a free borrowing card that allows you to check out books from the library for two weeks and renew them as needed.

As part of your borrowing account, alumni can also make use of the Prospector service using Strauss Library as your home library. This service gives access to books from academic and public libraries from around the State. Click here to access more information about Prospector.

Alumni can sign up for additional interlibrary loan services and an ILLiad account.
Note: there are ILL service fees for alumni.

The Colorado public unaffiliated are charged $22 per request while alumni receive ILL services at a reduced rate of $12 per filled request. Click here to access more information about ILL services.

Your borrowing card as alumni does not grant you access to all the online journals and full-text databases remotely from off-campus. To use these, you must visit the library on-site. However, the library and Office of Alumni Relations offer a program of select databases and online resources. Click here to find more information about this program and sign up for access
