Virtual Desktop Workstations

Virtual Desktop means that the small boxes you see next to the monitors have no moving parts like a hard drive. Instead, they use the VMWare Horizon View software platform, which means you access a "virtual computer" remotely. When you log in, it takes about 50 to 70 seconds (depending on the complexity of workstation selected)for the virtual desktop to become fully available. The virtual desktops use the thin client computing model, which allows for a very stable, uniform, secure and up-to-date computing environment.

Saving your work and printing from library workstations

Your data will be gone after you log off or your session ends. This protects the privacy of your work.

We recommend saving to the cloud (e.g.: OneDrive, Google Drive) and/or your USB drive as soon as you start your work, and at regular intervals. As you finish your session, emailing yourself your work will ensure that you have a second backup. Note that CU-Denver email has a 25 mb file size limit.

Printing: Choose File/Print, select EFI Print Me in order to print to one of our print stations in the library. Printing is 10¢ per page for black and white, 25¢ per page for color.

Save early and save often to the cloud or your USB drive. The library workstations will not save your data to the C: drive or the workstation desktop.
