Bonnie W. Camp - Early Life

Born to parents, Opa Quay Webb Camp and Dewey William Camp, on January 25, 1931, in Hattiesburg, MS.

Bonnie’s family resides on the Mississippi State Teachers College campus (now University of Southern Mississippi) where her father serves as the college's band director.

The family relocates to Poplarville, MS, where Bonnie's father teaches and serves as the band director at Pearl River Junior College. Bonnie's mother is also an educator and teaches physical education and 9th-grade English. During this time, Bonnie is home-schooled and often sits in on her mother's classes.

Bonnie's family relocates to Baton Rouge, LA, where her father receives a scholarship to Louisiana State University’s opera program. Bonnie begins elementary school in the 2nd grade at the Louisiana State University Laboratory School. Less than a year later, her father leaves academics to run a local music store.

Bonnie's family relocates again to Tupelo, MS, where her father becomes the band director at Tupelo High School. She enters 7th grade but is advanced to 8th grade within a week.

Over the course of three years, Bonnie attends a summer school program that allows her to complete her coursework and graduate from high school early.

Graduates Tupelo High School at the age of 14.

As a French horn and trumpet player, Bonnie enrolls at Mississippi State College for Women (now Mississippi University for Women), where she initially pursues a music degree, but later transitions to psychology.

Within three years, at just 17, Bonnie graduates with her bachelor’s degree, becoming one of the first psychology majors from Mississippi State College for Women.

Bonnie earns one of two full scholarships for psychology to attend Indiana University Graduate School.

Serves as a Graduate Assistant at Indiana University where she supports war veterans.

Completes her master's degree in Psychology from Indiana University.

Spends two years supporting John Conger in the newly created Clinical Psychology internship program at Indiana University Medical Center.

Returns to Bloomington, IN to complete her doctoral program.

Serves as a Clinician and Residence Hall Counselor at Indiana University.

Bonnie receives a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Indiana University.
