Bonnie W. Camp - Later Life

-

Having played the cello since college, Bonnie hosts informal chamber music gatherings in her home, bringing together a rotating group of musicians several evenings each week. As declining eyesight leads her to stop performing in the early 2000s, she continues organizing and hosting chamber music performances through the early 2020s. Music remains one of the greatest joys of her life.

Dr. Camp is honored with the distinction of Professor Emerita of Pediatrics and Psychiatry at the University of Colorado, School of Medicine.

-

Camp’s work shifts from remediation-focused interventions to a prevention-oriented model centered on early childhood development. In partnership with Steve Berman, MD, she co-develops Bright Beginnings (later Bright by Three), a family-facing program designed to support parents in fostering cognitive, social, and emotional development during the critical birth-to-three period.

-

Through a public–private partnership in Colorado and shaped by Camp's landmark early childhood research, the Bright by Three program officially evolves into a statewide system offering home visits and caregiver supports to strengthen early child development. Camp continues to serve as an active developer of core Bright by Three program materials that are still in use today and used by more than 17,000 families in Colorado.

The materials Camp develops for the Bright by Three program earns her the American Academy of Pediatrics Education award.

Realizing that women were not represented, Camp is inspired to support and establish several CU Anschutz lectureships, professorships, and endowed funds to recognize and honor this underrepresented group.

Dr. Camp collaborates with Dr. Gretchen Domek on research related to the PUPPETalk™ program.
