Strauss Library Wishes was open from October 7th to October 25th, 2024.
Below are wishes that faculty, staff, and students at Anschutz Campus have submitted to the library in previous years.
We have included wishes that were granted and wishes that were not granted.
Thank you for helping make the library everything you want it to be!
Add hot water kettles for tea and soups. The Keurigs have some coffee residue from the previous use.
This wish is granted and the library has put out three hot water kettles, one on each floor. Thank you.
More portable standing whiteboards- and hammocks!! Also I would love more of the kneeling chairs. If you could also get some bean bag chairs or other similar comfy seating that would be awesome! It would also be cool if there were some more walking desks.
We can consider and look into most of these. It is unlikely that we will provide hammocks. Thank you.
-Hammocks
-Another nap pod
-A patio umbrella for the outdoor seating on floor 3
We can look for funding for another nap pod and consider a location.
small portable heaters from group study rooms, rentable lockers to store study items for library (ie. markers, blankets, etc)
There are safety concerns with portable heaters. Regarding lockers, the library has over many years assessed this option and request and we feel that lockers would cause a variety of management challenges and unnecessary problems.
More white boards, both on the wall and portable.
Thanks. We will look into this and work on it.
More nap pods, bigger white boards, cafe open 24/7, plant store
Thank you for the wishes. We can keep in mind and look for future funding and space opportunities when it comes to adding more nap pods. Whiteboards can be worked on as we replace older ones. We cannot grant the wishes for 24/7 café and a plant store.
I would like to have more nap pods, large whiteboards, better markers, outdoor outlet stations to study, automated food market, dog daycare, and an espresso machine
Thank you for the wishes. We can keep in mind and look into more naps pods over time as the library evolves and opportunities of available funding and space emerge. Whiteboards and markers are items we can continue to work on and try to improve as we replace them over time. We cannot grant the wishes for an automated food market, dog daycare, or an expresso machine.
More microwaves in the lounges! There are many that are broken but even the ones that do work, students are waiting for up to 30 minutes to heat up their lunch.
Thank you. We will replace any broken microwaves and ones that have gotten too old.
Can you make the off campus proxy access for journals such that when you are on a journal article, you just click on a bookmarked link, sign into CU account, and then you are brought back to the journal article instead of how things are done currently which is you sign in to the off campus access and then you have to go to punned and search and find your article and then have to download it as a pdf. My prior institution did things the first way and it was much more easier.
Hello and thank you for asking about this! We are pleased to clarify how the proxy / remote access process works to get to journal articles and databases.
- The EZProxy off campus access page will appear naturally in the course of your research as long as you begin your search from the library's Home Page or via the library’s custom Pubmed link for CU Anschutz. As long as you use that customized link, our library holdings will be attached through the Article Linker button at the citation level in Pubmed. You may wish to bookmark our homepage and our custom Pubmed link in your browser as good starting points.
- There will be no need to search Pubmed, then come back to click the library's link to Off Campus Access, then go back to Pubmed. Some users may prefer to access the EZProxy login prior to launching their research; however this is only one way of doing things.
- Another way you may choose to simplify access is to install the Libkey Nomad browser extension. After adding the extension, be sure to select our institution ("University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus") from the dropdown available on the extension set-up page. Once this is set up it will not matter how you get to Pubmed as long as you use that same browser with the extension installed. Our library's holdings will always appear in Pubmed (and other resources such as Google Scholar) through custom buttons labeled "Download PDF".
