Strauss Library Wishes was open from October 7th to October 25th, 2024.
Below are wishes that faculty, staff, and students at Anschutz Campus have submitted to the library in previous years.
We have included wishes that were granted and wishes that were not granted.
Thank you for helping make the library everything you want it to be!
Subscribe to Current Environmental Health Reports (springer) Many articles are paywall restricted and it has timely reviews for research and teaching.
Thank you for requesting Current Environmental Health Reports. We will contact Springer for more information about the journal and pricing for the campus. If you could provide more information about your needs (clinical, teaching, or research?) via the Suggest an Item form (https://library.cuanschutz.edu/resources/find-books-media/suggest-item), it would be very helpful!
Subscription to Sanford Guide all access
Thank you for submitting a wish request for Sanford Guide All Access. We will contact the vendor for more information about the product and pricing options for the campus. If you could provide more information about your needs (clinical, teaching, or research?) via the Suggest an Item form (https://library.cuanschutz.edu/resources/find-books-media/suggest-item), it would be very helpful!
A free, short-term parking space (e.g. 10-15 minutes) near the library for the purpose of picking up and returning library materials. Justification: Might increase library materials usage for CU-Anschutz employees who don't have a parking pass because they don't usually go to campus. Like me.
Thank you for the great suggestion. We have reached out to campus planners with your request, and we will see what we can do to provide a short-term parking space for library patrons. Check for for updates.
UPDATE: Good news! We have worked with facilities to get a short-term library parking spot. After a renovation to the North end of the Evergreen lot, a free, designated spot will help our patrons more conveniently pick up and drop off library materials.
Ability to access hot spot without renting a motem.
A modem is not needed to use the Wi-Fi hotspots. A device with Wi-Fi to connect to the hotspot is required (laptop, smartphone) and then the hotspot provides the internet connection. You can ask for a quick tutorial at our service desk and staff will go over how to use the hotspot. Thank you.
More standy desks out in the regular library or south library spaces, and not just the lounge area
Yes, we can try this and move several standing desks from the Study Zone out into other areas. Several of these in the study zone seem underused. We will have to work with the challenge of finding appropriate locations that have electrical outlets nearby. Will do. Good idea. Thank you.
Open the library to the public
Thank you for submitting your wish. At this time, the building is accessible 24/7 to CU Anschutz students, staff, and faculty with an active Anschutz campus badge sponsored by their School and department. We do provide alternative access options either through a sponsored badge for affiliates, or by appointment for the public and others. Please see our website for more information about how you can access the library: https://library.cuanschutz.edu/about/strauss-library/library-policies/2…
It would be nice if the rooms had signs posting the reservation schedule. Or maybe little screens so it can be updated in real time? This would help prevent getting kicked out or having to kick someone out because they didn't realize the room was reserved.
We appreciate the wish. The reservation on any room is constantly changing as people make bookings online and any posted schedule quickly becomes out of date. Not all study rooms are on the reservation system, and some are available on a walk-in, first-come-first-serve basis. You can tell which rooms are walk-in rooms because they do not have a QR reservation sign. The study rooms which are reservable have a sign outside of the room with a QR code unique to that room. The QR code will take you directly to the current schedule of that room. When walking into one of these rooms, we suggest you always scan the code and check the room’s reservation status and make a reservation as you walk into the room so no one can bump you out.
Add a coffee shop on the first floor!
We love coffee too! Campus planners have considered this idea many times in the past. A coffee shop café used to be in the outside Lounge, but it was not able to make enough money to cover costs and stay open. Campus food services and institutional planning are constantly reviewing this question about food services on campus. Maybe it will happen in the future as the campus evolves. For now, your wish is not granted.
It would be great for the Strauss Library to provide site licenses to medical students so that they can access different sources such as Osmosis, AMBOSS, UWorld, and Boards & Beyond as they prepare to take their licensing exams. Additionally, these site licenses would be a great complement to the MD curriculum so that students are ready for their weekly and end-of-couse assessments.
Thank you for submitting a library wish request for Osmosis, AMBOSS, UWorld, and Board & Beyond. We have received multiple requests for some of those products and understand that many students find them very useful for their study and exam preparation. We will contact the vendors for more information and pricing options for the campus.
You may already know about this, but the library does subscribe to an exam prep tool BoardVitals: https://library-cuanschutz.libguides.com/BoardVitals.
