Strauss Library Wishes was open from October 7th to October 25th, 2024.
Below are wishes that faculty, staff, and students at Anschutz Campus have submitted to the library in previous years.
We have included wishes that were granted and wishes that were not granted.
Thank you for helping make the library everything you want it to be!
I would like a class (virtual or in person) on the basics of coding in R! Thank you!
Thanks for making your wish! We have offered classes in the basics of R on a monthly basis recently, and we plan to continue to, but we are currently filling the vacancy of the person who taught them. We hope to have a faculty member on board to teach these for spring 2023. Keep an eye on the library classes calendar for more information! We do also have some content available about the R basics; please contact AskUs for more information.
The courses offered through the library are great. To expand upon them, I would love to have longer, hands-on programming options available for data management using R and Python.
Thanks for making your wish and for the compliment about our classes! We plan to continue to offer classes of this nature, but we are currently filling the vacancy of the person who taught them. We hope to have a faculty member on board to teach these for spring 2023. Keep an eye on the library classes calendar for more information!
Could you lend out an external CD drive that would connect to a laptop through either USB or HDMI? Most laptops now do not have CD drives and some older study resources are still on CDs. Thanks!
Thank you for this wish!
This is a great idea, we will look into getting a couple of these drives for checkout that should work for both Mac and PC laptops. Give us a week or three to get the items ordered, received, processed and ready to check out.
Please keep iMovie going on the Mac Desktop computers on the 1st floor of library. This is a great resource for students to use to put together video projects that they are working on. I personally very much rely on the iMovie resource, it has been very helpful! Thank you!
Thank you for this wish!
We have tested to make sure all four of our iMac desktop computers have iMovie still and that it's working. We thought we would mention, that since iMovie is now free, another option would be to install it on your own Apple device and then hook your device at one of our eight "Laptop Docking" areas in the Commons in order to use the 27" monitors we have in those areas.
Better WiFi
Thanks for submitting this wish!
The WiFi infrastructure at the Strauss Library is set up and maintained by the CU Denver Office of Information Technology. We have heard that various buildings across campus have recently had major WiFi upgrades, and we await any decision about upgrades also coming to the library.
One thing to be aware of: the north end of the building has significant interference from numerous non-CU Denver WiFi networks outside the building. To help address this a separate WiFi network was created at the library called "CU Anschutz Fast" which should offer better performance for newer devices. Older devices would not be able to connect to this network, but they can still use the "CU Anschutz" network also available in the building and all over campus.
Jazz/classical music, additional fun events (I went to a popsicle one last year)
Wish Granted!
The Library is collaborating with the Office of Student Affairs to plan events to celebrate on campus. The library will continue to do this for the remainder of the academic year. Our first joint event is a food truck and band that will be located near the library on October 4th from 11 am – 1 pm. Be sure to check out the list of Campus Events on the Office of Student Affairs webpage to see a full list of events that Student Affairs is planning.
student gym membership included in student fees
Student Affairs is the department responsible for student fees so, sadly, we cannot grant your wish for a gym membership.
We do support your efforts to get more exercise! That is why we have several treadmills and stationary bikes located around the library. We also have fitness gear you can borrow, and check out the new pull up station on the second floor. See a list of fitness gear here: https://library.cuanschutz.edu/services/onsite-services/gadgets-for-checkout
White board markers that work consistently.
We will continue to provide free markers for in-library use and do our best to replenish them. The markers are used a great deal and will run out at times; and it is can be difficult to make sure all colors in a marker bag have enough ink. We can try.
Can we get more treadmills with standing desks? Or put one in the student only section on the second floor??
A new walk station is set up in public area for use on the 2nd floor in the study zone.
